Nineties Blogfest

Yay!  I'm participating in the:
Participants are supposed to share their favorite "somethings" for each year of the Nineties!  Welp- this was a no-brainer for me because I LOVE NINETIES music!  Best era for music, hands down!  So-- I'm going to share my favorite singles that were released each year.  ((Should be challenging since there was an ABUNDANCE of awesome music!  And-- I'm sure you will disagree with me on a few of these!))
---
1990-
Free Falling- Tom Petty

*Worth Noting- This song is special to me because it is associated with the first memories I have of my younger sister, Megan.  I remember running around with my "cousins" Brandon and Sarah-- dancing, playing air guitar to this song while waiting for her to be born.  During her delivery, this was the song that was playing on the radio in the room as she entered the world.

1991-
Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana

*Honorable Mentions: Come As You Are- Nirvana & Losing My Religion- REM

1992-
Down In A Hole- Alice In Chains

*Honorable Mentions: Under The Bridge- Red Hot Chili Peppers & Killing In The Name Of- Rage Against The Machine.
**But-- Alice In Chains is one of my all time favorite bands EVER-- kept me sane during my teenage years.  So-- Alice In Chains > Rage & Alice In Chains > RHCP

1993-
No Rain- Blind Melon

*Uncertainty: Mr. Jones- Counting Crows was also released that year... How does one choose!? Glarp.

1994-
Say It Ain't So- Weezer

*Honorable Mention: Black Hole Sun- Soundgarden.
**This song, the entire album actually, saved Garrett and I during one of our roadtrips across the country when we were youngsters.  I'll never forget screaming this with him through the hills of Colorado-- less than $100 to our name-- with our eyes on the prize: California.

1995-
Wonderwall- Oasis

*Alanis Morrisette Moment: You Oughta Know, Ironic & Forgiven were also released in '95.

1996-
One Headlight- The Wallflowers

*I miss you Wallflowers.

1997-
Semi-Charmed Life- Third Eye Blind

*Honorable Mentions: Karma Police- Radiohead & Bittersweet Symphony- The Verve
**Question: Does Bittersweet Symphony remind anyone of the movie Cruel Intentions?  I can't seperate the two from each other at all.  If I see the movie cover, I think of that song.  If I hear that song, I think of the movie.

1998-
Iris- Goo Goo Dolls

*Holy Popular Song Year, Batman!: One Week- Barenaked Ladies, The Way- Fastball, Praise You- Fat Boy Slim, Got You- The Flys & I could go on...!

1999-
Scar Tissue- Red Hot Chili Peppers

*Blink 182: What's My Age Again & All The Small Things were HUGE that year!  I loved Blink 182 back in the day.

Welp- that's my list!  Hope you guys enjoy!  Head over to Dave Wrote This and check out what other participants wrote about!  Should be a great trip down memory lane!

Settling It Off

Innocent beloved throne
Won of rite a lie you stole
Then recite a little prayer for truth
Then recite a little prayer for truth

In the arms of one to come
Safe from harm and going numb
Then recite a little prayer for you
Then recite a little prayer for you

You're eyes to eyes
You're nose to nose
Wherein apart
Within our soul
You'll beat no more

Innocent of right from wrong
Won from writing another's song
Then recite a little prayer for truth
Then recite a little prayer for truth

In disguise burning sun
Under skies where no one's shunned
Then we recite a little prayer for you
Find more similar lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.com/2Zm5Then we recite a little prayer for you

You're eyes to eyes
You're nose to nose
Wherein apart
Within our soul
You'll beat no more

Wherein my heart
Is where I'll bleed
Brought from coal living off the heat
Until new I won't die I won't grow
Until new I won't die I won't grow

Innocent beloved throne
Won of rite a lie you stole
Then recite a little prayer for truth
Then recite a little prayer for truth

In the arms of one to come
Safe from harm and going numb
Then recite a little prayer for you
Then recite a little prayer for you

Gotye- Somebody That I Used To Know

Apparently I've been under a rock or something, because this song has been out for a few months... But, I heard this song on 89.3 The Current and I.CAN'T.STOP.LISTENING.TO.IT.

IT IS INSANELY AWESOME.

Please watch the video and listen to the entire song... it's one of those that keep getting better and better!

The song is kind of sad... but very true in what they are singing about.

I see it representing the viscious cycle of love... The aftermath once you have been hurt by someone.  The paint represents this very well.  At the beginning of the video, Gotye is naked, his skin uncovered by the paint.  He is singing about his relationship and as it unravels and we get to the chorus- he slowly becomes covered by this memory and it changes him.  His bitterness about how it ended and that she is now just someone he used to know is all over him.  Then, Kimbra enters and she is painted everywhere but her face, representing that he has almost engulfed her in all of his pain.  She blames herself sometimes for their fighting, but then realizes it's because he isn't over his previous relationship.  When she confronts him, he goes back to the chorus about the previous hurt, while hurting her in the process.  Kimbra's paint washes off and represents her walking away from the situation... Yet, Gotye is still covered in it.

Please watch the facial expressions while they sing... it is incredibly intense!

I hope you love this song as much as I do...

Here are the lyrics:
"Somebody That I Used To Know"
(feat. Kimbra)

[Gotye:]
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

[Kimbra:]
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
And I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

[Gotye:]
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Somebody
(I used to know)
Somebody
(Now you're just somebody that I used to know)
